Biography

From a Village in Alwar to the National Tourism Table

Born on 3 January 1961 in village Sanoli, Tehsil Mundawar, District Alwar, Rajasthan, Krishan Dutt Yadav took a Bachelor of Commerce from A.R.S.D. College, University of Delhi in 1979 — and started his first business the following year.

That business, Alwar Tourist Transport Service, founded in 1980, became one of the leading tourist transport operators in northern India, serving international and domestic tourists, multinational companies, business travellers, Indian government ministries and embassies. Over more than four decades it has been entrusted with major events including the Commonwealth Games and the Delhi Marathon. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has conferred the National Tourism Award on the company eight times, and in 2017 honoured it with the Hall of Fame Award.

Alongside running the firm, he gave twenty-eight years to the Indian Tourist Transporters Association (ITTA) — the national body of tourist transport operators recognised by the Ministry of Tourism. He served on its Executive Committee from 1991, as Treasurer from 1995, as Honorary Secretary from 1998, and as President from 2013 to 2019, when he stepped back from all posts to make way for new entrants. As Secretary and President he represented the industry before the Ministries of Tourism, Road Transport & Highways, Finance and Commerce, contributed to the formulation and revision of policy, and assisted the Ministry of Tourism in approving tourist transport operators. He also represented ITTA on the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Sectional Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards from 2013 to 2019.

He was a Founding Director of FAITH, the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality, which brings together ten national tourism, travel and hospitality organisations; a Director of India Tourism Mart 2018, the inaugural edition of what the Ministry then made an annual event; and a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management (IITTM).

In 1987 he moved into land and construction with Vanchari Hotels Private Limited, with the stated aim of developing his native areas, employing local youth and creating jobs. In Neemrana, Rajasthan, the company built the town’s first shopping arcade of fifty shops and a complex leased to a hospital and a public-sector bank, and is building an open-to-sky mall across 11,370 square metres; it also built a highway restaurant on NH-48 at Antela, Jaipur. Service apartments at Shahjahanpur and a wellness and spa resort at Bansur are in planning. More recently he became a Designated Partner in Odyssey Automobiles LLP, running premium motorcycle outlets at two locations alongside his son.

Through all of it he has stayed a farmer. He cultivates roughly 300 acres across Alwar and Jaipur districts — bajra, moong, desi chana, sarson, moth, amla and fruit including mausami, ber and papita — using crop rotation, composting, organic inputs and minimal chemicals, and keeps a dairy of Sahiwal and desi cows and buffalo. He has organised medical camps and charity events, facilitated eye surgeries and medicine distribution, encouraged sport in rural areas, and built roads, a school and temples in his native villages.
